Orchid Culture:
General Considerations

Since no two growing spaces are the same, you should analyze the space you can provide, and do what you can to satisfy your orchids. Choose your plants based on your tastes and what environmental conditions you can provide. If you can maximize many of the growing conditions presented, falling short in one or two areas will not be devastating. We try to present some helpful hints that work for us in our growing areas. The recommendations in these pages are just that. If you choose to incorporate new ideas into your growing, experiment on one or a couple plants first before switching your entire collection. If you are not satisfied with your growing, change one variable at a time and allow sufficient time to elapse to properly evaluate the results. A "sufficient" amount of time is one bloom cycle- six to twelve months in most orchids.

Ernie's article from the December, 2007 issue of Orchids magazine is very informative if you want more information on gardening under fluorescent lights.
